RULE 11: THE RULES OF HEADPHONES
Many people exercise with the help of music. This way they can shift their mind a bit and focus even more on what they are doing. However, if you wear headphones, you usually won’t hear when others speak to you. So try to stay aware of the environment and be aware that you can be talked to.
Keep an eye on! In principle, it is also a gym rule that you should leave people with headphones on or with earphones in peace. After all, it is not for nothing that they close themselves off from the outside world. So if you don’t have something essential to say, you’d better shut up.
RULE 12: DON’T BLOCK THE MIRROR
Not because you are a vain, but because you want to know exactly how to perform the exercise, you stand in front of the mirror. It is therefore super irritating if a small bump comes in front of you that blocks your view. Ideally you would like to give him a big push, but of course you can’t.
Do you recognize yourself in this, because you sometimes squeeze yourself between someone and the mirror? Then stop with this! Stop standing between someone else and the mirror, but choose to stand next to or behind this person. If there is no more room for the mirror, you are out of luck and you will have to perform the exercise elsewhere. Of course you can also wait until there is room again.
RULE 13: DO NOT DISTURB OTHERS DURING AN EXERCISE
If you are engaged in an exercise, you are probably in supreme concentration. You are completely occupied with yourself and cannot have much of others at that moment. They should therefore not dare to talk to you.
What you don’t want, others don’t want either. If you see someone else doing an exercise, leave them alone and don’t start telling your life story. If they are interested in this at all, it can wait until after training.
RULE 14: HELP OTHER ATHLETES
Although everyone is working for themselves, you are not always working individually. Sometimes people need help and will ask for it. For example, if they have not yet completely mastered their technique or if they need a spotter. Do they ask for that help from you? Then help where you can.
Keep an eye on! You may be so muscular and have a lot of knowledge about sports and the human body, nobody wants unsolicited criticism or advice.
RULE 15: DON’T WATCH ANYONE ELSE FROM THE DEVICE
The number of devices in the gym is often limited and it will therefore undoubtedly happen that you have to wait before you can use a device.
Now don’t stand right next to the device while you wait. You may not look away from the user just yet, but you will undoubtedly chase them. He or she can no longer fully focus on the exercise and no longer gets the most out of the training. Wait patiently for your turn and give the other person the time and space to perform his or her exercise optimally.
RULE 16: DON’T SMOTHER OTHERS WITH YOUR SCENTS JOUW
Hygiene is extremely important. In everyday life, but also in the gym. The smell of sweat won’t really be appreciated. The other extreme, that the deodorant smoke can be smelled from a kilometer away, is also not a good first impression. So look for a happy medium, where you have a subtle but nice scent around you.
RULE 17: LET WOMEN DO THEIR THING
We understand that you love to look at beautiful women and you will undoubtedly find them in the gym. However, you are not in the pub and women are not waiting to be stared at or decorated. And they certainly don’t want to feel your corns burning on their backs while they’re doing an exercise. No not at all! So tear your eyes away and let them do what they came for.
RULE 18: EVERYONE HATES DAMP APPLIANCES VOCHTIGE
You’re doing something wrong if you don’t sweat while exercising. Trust us, no one will blame you for sweating, even if that sweat ends up on the devices. If you don’t clean up that sweat then, you won’t be thanked for it. The other athletes are not waiting to have to brush off someone else’s sweat before they can start the exercise themselves. Therefore, always clean the devices when you are finished, so that they can easily be used by someone else.
RULE 19: DON’T THROW WEIGHTS
We understand that you have built up quite a bit of muscle mass from all the exercises you have performed with weights. And while you want to use as much of this force as possible during the exercise, you don’t want to do this after the exercise by throwing the weights on the floor. Firstly, this is dangerous and can cause serious injuries to others and secondly, it is also bad for the weights. So put the weights back carefully after your training, and pay attention to the safety of others.
RULE 20: WATCH YOUR STUFF
As mentioned, a towel is mandatory in a gym. In addition to a towel, many athletes also carry a water bottle with them. This way you can recharge yourself between sets and then get back to work as much as possible. However, it is not the intention that you leave this stuff lying around everywhere. Place them next to you and make sure they are not in the middle of the walkway. You don’t want others to fall over your stuff and be out of circulation for weeks.
RULE 21: CLEAN UP!
Perhaps this is the most important rule of the 21 gym rules we’ve listed here. For this reason, we have saved it for last.
The hairs on the back of your neck will probably also stand on end if you want to use a device that is full of weight plates from someone else. Where you are irritated by the sloppy behavior of others, others are irritated by the sloppy behavior of you.
How difficult can it be to take the trouble to put the dumbbells, barbell or weight plates neatly back in place after your workout? This is not only a social act towards the gym, but also towards your fellow athletes. The gym employees can now do what they are paid for and the other athletes can immediately start their own exercise. In addition, you have already proven that you can handle the weight by using it during your training. Cleaning up is therefore a piece of cake, you might say.
